About Food Services

We believe that well-nourished students are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed. Our School Nutrition Program is dedicated to providing healthy, delicious meals that fuel students’ bodies and minds each day. We are proud to offer balanced menu options that meet or exceed state and federal nutrition guidelines while also reflecting student preferences and cultural diversity.

Fresh, Nutritious Meals

Our menus feature a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy options. We strive to introduce students to new flavors while continuing to offer familiar favorites they love.

Committed to Student Well-Being

We understand that healthy eating habits formed in childhood can last a lifetime. That’s why we focus not only on nutritious meals but also on nutrition education and opportunities for students to learn about making healthy choices.

Safe & Supportive Service

Our dedicated nutrition team works hard to ensure that every meal is prepared safely and served with care. We take pride in creating a welcoming environment where all students can enjoy their meals.

Accessibility for All

Every student should have access to nutritious food. Our school participates in programs that help ensure meals are affordable—and often at no cost—for families. We are committed to removing barriers so every child can thrive.

Looking Ahead

We are continually improving our program by listening to student feedback, exploring new recipes, and partnering with families and community organizations. Together, we are creating a positive, healthy school culture that supports academic success and overall well-being.

Education Benefit Forms

The Education Benefits Form collects information needed to ensure the school receives state and federal funding for education programs. Without this information, Redford Union School District could lose important funding for education programs that our students need. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer support and services for our students including, but not limited to:

• Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids)
• Teaching supplies and materials
• Counselors and Social Workers
• School Nurses
• Professional Learning for staff
• Technology

Why is Redford Union School District requesting financial information? The Education Benefits Form determines eligibility of a student or household. The total count of eligible students is used to determine the funding amounts that will be made available to a school. The more forms returned the better.

What do I need to do? Please complete the form online by clicking here
Or a paper copy and return it to school.

What else might my student or household be eligible for? Based on the information you provide on your Education Benefits Form, your child may qualify for other programs such as:

• Programs that provide food support
• Programs that provide field trip support
• Programs that provide school supplies or assist with school fees
• Potential household support for cable and internet

If you have any questions, please contact Joy Hartman at 313.242.6000

Education Benefit Forms are available in all schools or from the main office of the Food Service Department, or by clicking here. Forms must be renewed each school year. Families who are directly eligible through enrollment in various State and Government programs will be mailed a notice from our Department by the start of the school year. Any parent who is unsure of their eligibility status may contact the Food Service Office at 313-242-6000.

School Meals

All school meals served by the Redford Union Schools Food Service Department are planned to meet or exceed nutritional guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture governing the National School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program.

We encourage all families fill out the Education Benefit Form to help our school with funding. The application is available in all school buildings, the Food Service Office, or in a downloadable version.
